Quadpack’s rapid prototyping centre introduces material upgrades, Pantone matching and improved workflows with Stratasys J850 Prime

Quadpack has expanded the 3D modelling capability at its UK-based rapid prototyping centre. Following an upgrade to Stratasys’ J850 Prime 3D printer, it is now working with new materials to offer new finishes, textures and Pantone colours. The current setup enables it to produce fully-functional models that look more realistic than ever. Used in the early stages of package design, the 3D models allow better visualisation of pack designs, while accelerating development time and boosting creativity.

Quadpack is an early adopter of Stratasys’ industry-leading 3D printing technology, working and innovating in collaboration with Stratasys’ local partner Tri-Tech 3D. Among the new capabilities is the use of the new Vero UltraClear material that emulates PET and glass – particularly important in beauty packaging – and VeroVivids to produce full-colour parts with Pantone validation. A beta tester of Keyshot, Quadpack has fully integrated the software into the design team’s workflow. With the latest update, several processes are combined into one, cutting hours off a previously time-consuming process and enabling new decoration effects such as silk-screening.

“In the beauty industry, time to market is everything and, with the Stratasys J850, we are able to share realistic-looking concepts with clients early on, to speed up approval. This means we can convert ideas into marketable products far more quickly, which gives us greater added value and an edge over our competitors, as we are one of the only beauty packaging providers with this capability,” said Quadpack’s 3D printing expert Oliver Drew.

The Stratasys J850 Prime is the world’s only full-colour, multi-material 3D printer.

Fostering innovation with creative young talent

Imagine a fragrance accessory that is both an aromatherapy device and a bold fashion statement. Too futuristic and conceptual? Perhaps – but this product exists, has a name and a creator: ‘NI’ was developed in 2018 by designer Amaia Aranzabal as a final-year project at the prestigious Elisava design and engineering school in Barcelona, Spain. The challenge for that year’s graduating class had been set by Quadpack, partnering with Elisava for the first time.

New investments put Quadpack at the forefront of smart manufacturing

Increased manufacturing capabilities are one of Quadpack’s priorities for the next four years. By 2025, the beauty packaging provider aims to lead innovations in airless and sustainable products, offering solutions “in the region, for the region”. With a clear strategy and a roadmap in mind, Quadpack’s Operations team has the mission of strengthening its industrial capacity through ambitious investments that are being globally deployed.

Packaging with a positive impact on people and the planet

Sustainability is a long-term commitment with innovation, transparency and change. As a packaging manufacturer and provider, Quadpack is directing the sustainable transformation of its portfolio through its ‘positive-impact packaging’ strategy. By using data-based assessment tools to measure products’ carbon footprint, circularity and other key performance indicators, the strategy brings more accountability to Quadpack’s sustainable innovations.

Louvrette one year on: a successful journey

What happens when German engineering excellence meets creativity born in Barcelona? A raft of innovative solutions, developed, produced and delivered in a way that’s sustainable, creative and efficient. That is just one of the outcomes of the rare but successful ‘marriage’ between German manufacturer Louvrette and Quadpack. A lot has happened in the year since the acquisition, which pushed Quadpack into the Top 10 of European beauty packaging providers.

As Sustainability and Innovation are key priorities for Quadpack and the global consumer market, the organisation feels the responsibility to work with supply partners from all regions to establish a new way of doing business, where collaboration is the new competition. On November 13, 2019, Quadpack held a dedicated suppliers’ conference on Sustainability and Innovation in Hong Kong to facilitate this new era of partnerships. Held during the 2019 edition of Cosmopack Asia, in attendance were Quadpack’s top 20 Asia supply partners.
