Quadpack Industries, manufacturer and provider of packaging solutions to the global beauty industry, delivered strong results in 2017, thanks to its diversified business model and sustainable growth strategy. EBITDA reached a healthy €6.8 million, an increase of 2% over the 2016 results.
With a consolidated presence in the European skincare packaging market, 2017 saw the company increase its penetration of the fragrance and make-up markets, together now accounting for 35% of its business. Its hybrid manufacturing/sourcing model keeps its offering flexible, while delivering specialised differentiation through its own manufacturing output.
Over the last four years, Quadpack has been establishing its own Manufacturing Division with a number of strategic acquisitions in Spain, including the Quadpack Wood factory, the Quadpack Impressions decoration plant and the Quadpack Plastics injection moulding facility – each acquired to create centres of excellence in their respective areas. Continued investment in each plant has steadily upgraded their facilities and increased combined production capacity to 170 million pieces a year. Investment in the division in 2017 rose to €1.1 million euros.
CEO Tim Eaves attributes the strong results to this hybrid structure, coupled with a unique business model. “We have what we call a ‘Little Big Company’,” he says. “We have offices in 15 cities on four continents. Each of these acts with the agility of a SME, within the framework of our global, corporate structure, bringing stability and long-term sustainability. Our hybrid setup continues to set the standard in our industry. It gives us a level of flexibility which other manufacturers lack, being able to source from around the world. At the same time, it allows us to offer a competitive edge to our clients through our own specialised manufacture, unlike sourcing-only operations.”
2016 M&A activity affected the EBITDA growth rate. The acquisition of Collcap Group caused a slight levelling of the growth percentage in 2017 compared to the upward curve of previous years.
2017 marked the commencement of territorial expansion outside of Europe, with the establishment of a new commercial operation in the Asia-Pacific region. Led from Melbourne, Australia, and Hong Kong, substantial growth is forecast for this year, with sales expected to exceed €7m. This year, Quadpack will also target the US market, where it currently has a small but loyal client base on the East Coast. Plans to penetrate this market include a new on-the-ground team under a dedicated Managing Director for the region, and the appointment of East Hill Industries as exclusive distributor of Quadpack’s own Q-Line range of products.
Quadpack’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy, announced in March 2018, will also extend its reach within the company, where Quadpack finds itself ahead of the game in the beauty packaging sector, aligning itself with multinational clients in ensuring responsible governance.
Looking ahead, estimated 2018 turnover is €106m. Growth plans this year are concentrated on regional expansion, product offer and the Manufacturing Division. A €2m investment budget is earmarked for plant improvements and new equipment in the factories. Quadpack ultimately aims to reinvest up to 33% of its profit back into the business.
In addition, a new department of Design and Advanced Technologies will propel the company’s research and development. Its efforts are aligned closely with those of the Skincare, Make-Up and Fragrance Divisions. An exciting roadmap is under development to enrich Quadpack’s product portfolio with innovative solutions, both designed in-house and sourced from its network of manufacturing partners worldwide.
Eaves concludes: “This current year will see much activity as we continue our growth plans, expanding into new regions, increasing our manufacturing capacity and leaving a positive impact on the world through our CSR strategy.
“Our business will benefit from the investments and initiatives we made in 2017. These actions, combined with our focus on growth and the power of our connected businesses, make us optimistic about 2018 and beyond.”

Manufacturing Division expansion reflects corporate growth
A new production line has been installed at the Quadpack Plastics injection-moulding plant to manage the increased volume of acrylic jar manufacture. Quadpack’s Manufacturing Division now has a combined production capacity of 170 million items a year, including the Quadpack Wood and Quadpack Impressions facilities.

Tata Harper Beautifying Face Oil wins prestigious NJPEC award

Rail freight: beauty packaging takes the Silk Route
It's quicker than sea and cheaper than air freight. Rail transportation is now becoming a viable option for the beauty packaging sector, offering a host of benefits to cosmetics companies. To trial the service, Quadpack's Supply Chain team has just successfully completed its first shipment via rail, on an inaugural journey along the old Silk Route.

Automating the extraordinary: Technotraf ramps up jar cap production
New machinery has been installed at Quadpack's Technotraf wood factory to industrialise the production of unique shapes in wooden componentry. A high-speed CNC (computer-numeric controlled) milling machine and a six-head CNC sanding machine have been added to the plant's installations, following a €400,000 investment.

The FiFi awards are just around the corner. Over 50 perfumes have been shortlisted to claim the coveted prizes. This year's ceremony, held on June 8 at the Cirque d'Hiver-Bouglione in Paris, France, is a very special edition as it also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the awards.
New glass decorating line arrives at Quadpack Impressions
Quadpack Impressions has been upgraded with a brand new decorating line. The installation offers high-precision screen printing and hot-stamping on glass bottles, as well as other materials. The plant now offers a complete, Europe-based decoration service for all types of beauty packaging.
Quadpack Foundation supports Marató TV3 charity drive
Quadpack Foundation has lent the expertise of Technotraf Wood Packaging to the Marató TV3 charity drive. The Catalan channel hosted its annual awareness-raising broadcast, this year focusing on strokes and spinal and brain cord injuries, on 18 December 2016. A full day’s worth of programming was dedicated to explaining the conditions, in order to raise funds for research.

Quadpack celebrates merger at Hong Kong party
The annual Quadpack cocktail party during Cosmoprof Hong Kong this year celebrated the merger with Collcap. Previous Collcap members, including founder John McDermott, joined their new Quadpack colleagues on 17 November on the Rooftop Terrace of the Wooloomooloo Steakhouse in Wan Chai. Over 140 staff, clients and suppliers took a break from the show to relax and enjoy the stunning views over Victoria Harbour.
Collcap and Quadpack merge
UK packaging provider Collcap Group Ltd and international packaging manufacturer and provider Quadpack Industries SA have merged. The combined group will retain the Quadpack name. Quadpack Industries is now a leading presence in Europe for the manufacture and supply of packaging solutions to the beauty industry.
Quadpack Plastics sees arrival of high-end injection-moulding line
Since its incorporation into Quadpack Group in April this year, the production experts of the Manufacturing Division have been streamlining the layout of the plant. The new setup ensures optimal workflow, from injection-moulding, through decoration, to assembly and warehousing. The arrival of a high-end injection moulding machine in June signifies the start of two-year plan to deploy state-of-the-art injection moulding equipment at Quadpack Plastics.
Krampak becomes Quadpack Impressions and reports record sales
Quadpack Group's decoration plant has a new name. Krampak, which was incorporated into the group in 2014, has now been rebranded 'Quadpack Impressions'. Two years since its inclusion, its facilities and its turnover have seen significant growth. The rebranding reflects its full integration into the group and the incorporation of the decoration facility at the newly acquired Quadpack plastics.
Quadpack invests in new emission control system at Technotraf
Quadpack Group has made a major investment at its Manufacturing Division in Torrelló, Spain, as part of its long-term environmental commitment. The installation of a €400,000 bespoke regenerative thermal oxidiser (RTO) ensures its facilities exceed environmental regulations now and in the future. The state-of-the-art equipment processes emissions from the Technotraf factory's spray coating line.
Catalan reforestation project is first act of newly-formed Quadpack Foundation
Spanish NGO La Fundació Antigua Caixa Sabadell 1859 has formally reopened the Can Deu forest in Catalonia, Spain, as part of a massive regeneration project co-supported by the Quadpack Foundation. The project is the first act to be sponsored by the new foundation, which was formed on 8th April by international packaging manufacturer and provider Quadpack Group.
Three Part Harmony by Origins wins NJPEC award
Another win for Quadpack Group! Three Part Harmony from Estée Lauder's Origins brand has scooped up the Package of the Year Health and Beauty Silver award in New Jersey, US. Organised by the New Jersey Packaging Executives Club, the event – now in its 37th year – celebrates excellence in the packaging industry.
